Delphine Jaulhac, The Designer

Graduated from Decorative Arts I followed a double textile formation design and product. For several months I undertook my design experiments in the family workshop.
This first collection is the history of the know-how transmission between a father and his daughter and of its excellence. As a former ivory sculptor, my father needed to abandon his first passion 30 years ago. During all my childhood its past of sculptor seemed to me as a myth not having never seen the least material trace of its twenty years of production, except for its hand-palimpsests. Only the flesh was there in testimony.
I decided today to reactivate this family myth with the will to regenerate the conditions of transmission of this know-how. Ivory is first of all a color, a particular texture, a sensual dialogue that each craftsman acquires through meetings and the attempts and taming of the matter, but also through a story, a fantasy. What is tied and seals itself between hand and material is a writing and it is this that can be preserved and promoted through a true alternative to the animal material of origin and that is known as Tagua or vegetable ivory. I see it as a support on which ancestral year writing art continues to evolve with its time.
My priority: to design great quality objects that respect nature, to suggest a new appearance ecology. I am of the opinion that the luxury is a posture which does not depend on the intrinsic value of the object, but on the message it conveys. It is a question of conferring to nature vegetal has true stature in the luxury universe.
